Belarus Resort, Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi, Russia
Belarus Resort, located in Krasnaya Polyana, Russia, was the first commercial design project that I was involved in after graduation and probably the most diverse in terms of the typology of the program, scope, and size. An interesting anecdote: at the time, the project was fully funded and owned by the still-president of one of the ex-SSSR states. The ski complex includes two hotels, one VIP villa, a spa center, two small outdoor swimming pools, a ski trail, various sports courts/playgrounds, children's playgrounds, and multiple green spaces within the complex. The entire resort was done in an alpine style and is perfectly fitted into the existing mountain environment. Stone and wood were used as facade coverings, giving the entire complex an authentic look and feel.
Due to the steep mountain slope on which the complex was built, the greatest challenge for the architects was to resolve the confluence of water from the mountain and prevent the accumulation of rainwater, thus preventing moisture. As a junior architect, my responsibilities included producing drawings from schematic design to construction documentation: 2D and 3D design, construction details, graphic design presentations and visualizations, technical documentation, and specifications.
